For a writer, a diverse background and a
variety of experiences make a world of difference. While single-minded dedication to a specific professional
path may be valued in the world of business, flexibility and interest in many things gives a writer an undeniable
edge.
After earning a degree in English
and writing, I began my professional career as a research editor for a business publication,
but my interests in other areas could not be contained. While I excelled at researching and writing about office products
and business practices, I also wanted to learn about everything else. So, naturally, I became a teacher! After becoming
certified as an English and elementary education teacher, I went on to study psychology,
and I soon found myself counseling in a higher education setting. My next passion was nutrition
and alternative medicine. I am proud to say that I am formally educated in foods and nutrition with a certification
from the American Dietetic Association. I worked briefly as a nutritionist for an upscale
health club, where I helped people reach their weight loss goals with a healthy diet. At
about that time, I also started to moonlight as a freelance writer and desktop publisher,
putting newsletters and brochures together for a variety of community organizations. I had been responsible for writing tasks
in every one of my previous jobs, so it was time to begin offering my services as a freelancer as well.
My passion for learning landed me a job teaching enrichment
to gifted children. I spent four years in the public school system, and I have been teaching enrichment workshops
on weekends for nearly a decade. I've learned as much from my students as they have learned from me, since my goal is
always to guide learners in pursuit of their own unique interests. As a teacher, I have dabbled in science,
logic, business, the stock market, drama, chess, literature and more. I am even certified in special education.
The driving force behind all of my professional pursuits has been a strong interest in spirituality
that encompasses all forms of philosophical, theological and mystical thought. I have studied Eastern and
Western ideas in depth, and I have come to appreciate what is common and inspiring about all religions while
maintaining a dedication to my Christian roots. I practice yoga, meditation and prayer,
and I am an avid reader of material by those dedicated to personal and spiritual growth. Through all of this, writing has remained my first love. In 2004,
I began to study fiction writing for children. After publishing the first piece of children’s fiction
I attempted to market, I decided to reinvent myself as a freelance writer. I have had tremendous success since that time,
as my portfolio, testimonials and client list reflect. I continue to teach part time, but I have come full circle and am certain
that I will continue to perfect my craft as a writer of just about anything!
I hope this brief biography has communicated the idea that while I am highly
qualified to write on a wide variety of subjects, I work without limitations and can tackle just about any project that involves
the written word. I look forward to helping you communicate your message and educate your audience. You
know what you want to say. I can help you put it in writing!
